I started the campaign a long time ago. The idea was - is - to "get" Spring Global Mail. Spring are a joint venture of TNT, Royal Mail and Singapore post located in the Netherlands (so for the purposes of scamming, "overseas"). In addition to their "legitimate" business, spring process vast amounts of very unpleasant scams from Europe, bring it into the UK, and deliver it to gullible old people. What is particularly nasty is that Spring assists the scammers by processing this dreadful fraud, in a lot of cases apparently even printing it, stuffing it in envelopes, and addressing it, before taking it to the UK where Royal Mail, their partner in this scamming operation, delivers it. The UK base is 9 Trident way, Southall. Royal Mail makes big money from Spring and its scammers.
My aged parent was a consistent victim of the stuff that came through Spring, and some time ago I started a campaign to get the bastards. I contacted many potential associates, and finally broke through today thatnks to Scams Direct, and so today gave the story to the Sun in a long interview. They even sent a photographer.
But I still feel a bit guilty. For six years I tried to stop the mad old AP from sending money to these assorted crooks, and tried to get Spring to stop sending it. She wouldn't believe me, and Spring refused to stop. That was until I blew the whistle loudly in a threatening letter to their MD, DTI and the Postal regulator. Then miraculously, as if to refute their claims that they had absolutely no role in preparing or printing, stuffing or addressing it, the WHOLE LOT STOPPED.
So, now, a bit late, it's going to be in the Sun on Monday. I have given them the whole story. I do so hope they major on the Spring - Royal Mail connection, and not on "stupid old woman loses her savings", as AP is in a community now and someone may see it - and an old picture of her.
But I had to do it. It is so utterly wrong that Royal Mail makes a lot of money - deliberately and knowingly - not just from delivering scams in the mail, but from a joint venture partnership that actually helps the scammers to target gullible elderly people.
